The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on traditional rulers in the South South region to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing his re-election as non-negotiable for national stability and progress.
Governor Okpebholo made the appeal while hosting members of the South South Monarchs Forum at the Government House in Benin City.
Addressing the royal fathers, he emphasised the vital role traditional institutions play in national development, especially in fostering unity and combating insecurity.
“South South should speak with one voice because we have our son as President. He deserves our total support to complete the good work he has started,” the Governor declared.
He praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms, tax policies, and increased federal allocations to states, noting that these initiatives are creating room for tangible grassroots development.
While commending Tinubu’s efforts in tackling insecurity, Okpebholo appealed to the monarchs to support intelligence gathering within their communities, pointing to their strategic presence and influence at the grassroots level.
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions, promising to engage other Southern governors to uphold the dignity and relevance of royal fathers in governance.
Responding on behalf of the Forum, Vice Chairman and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, HRM Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), lauded Governor Okpebholo for his bold leadership, especially in defending the dignity of the Oba of Benin and promoting peace across Edo State.
He congratulated the Governor on his electoral victory and pledged the Forum’s full support for his administration and President Tinubu’s re-election.
