Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has said that the budgeting approach of President Bola Tinubu’s administration is aimed at driving long-term economic transformation rather than focusing on short-term survival.

Speaking at the 15th Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Lecture organised by the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers in Abuja, Shettima said the administration is institutionalising a new approach to budgeting that is driven by logic, precision, and long-term strategy.

He drew parallels between engineering and governance, explaining that budgets should be designed like machines, with every bolt, nut, and component accounted for. According to him, each budget should be a deliberate technical operation in nation-building rather than a routine exercise or an emotional response to challenges.

Shettima stressed that budgeting must reflect a commitment to productivity, sustainability, and progress.

He said the current administration is building systems that align with these principles, and that every naira allocated must be justified by its impact, just as engineers ensure that each component of a structure serves a purpose.
