President Bola Tinubu will confer national honours on select members of the National Assembly as part of this year’s Democracy Day celebrations on June 12.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by House of Representatives Spokesman, Akin Rotimi Jr.

As part of the activities, the leadership and members of the House will participate in a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly in Abuja, where the President will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and deliver a national address.

“The event will include goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of national honours on selected legislators by Mr. President,” Rotimi announced.

He noted that this year’s Democracy Day theme is: “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development.”

Rotimi described the joint sitting as a moment of reflection on Nigeria’s democratic journey and a tribute to the National Assembly’s role in sustaining civil rule, promoting accountability, and driving national development since 1999.

He urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Democracy Day as a time to renew their patriotism and commitment to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united country.
