In an extraordinary demonstration of political harmony, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District on Sunday adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the preferred candidates for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections respectively.
This landmark decision was reached at the APC Delta Central Mega Unity Meeting, a high-level political gathering held in Ughelli, which drew national and state party leaders, stakeholders, elected officials, and grassroots supporters.
The event was a convergence of political forces who came together to realign, reconcile, and solidify their strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The motion for the dual endorsement was moved by Hon. Francis Waive, Member representing Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
In his remarks, Waive praised President Tinubu’s courage in implementing sweeping economic reforms despite early resistance, while lauding Governor Oborevwori for what he described as inclusive governance and infrastructural drive across the state.
The motion was seconded by Hon. Halims Agoda, a former lawmaker with deep political influence in the region.
It was unanimously adopted, signifying the party’s overwhelming support for the leadership of Tinubu at the national level and Oborevwori’s administration in Delta State.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo (SAN), one of the key conveners of the meeting, described it as historic and unprecedented.
He noted that the APC in Delta Central was setting the pace for a broader coalition of unity across the state. According to him, President Tinubu remains Nigeria’s most capable manager of economic recovery, while Governor Oborevwori has shown pragmatism by aligning with the APC despite being elected under the PDP.
“This is not an ordinary meeting. This is a declaration of unity. This is the ‘Ukodo base’. No other senatorial district should have taken this initiative from us,” Keyamo said.
“Since 1999, the Urhobo nation has never been this united politically. I can boldly say that for the first time in Delta’s democratic history, APC will sweep the polls across all levels in 2027.”
He announced that the Unity Meeting would be replicated across all eight local government areas in Delta Central, down to the ward and unit levels, as part of a grassroots mobilisation campaign to solidify the party’s base.
APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, praised the initiative and urged members to prioritise internal cohesion, noting that party discipline and loyalty would determine APC’s fortunes in 2027.
Also speaking, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, Chairman of APC in Delta Central, said the state was witnessing a new political dawn, with Governor Oborevwori’s defection marking a strategic turning point in the balance of power.
“This is a day of unity, vision, and strategy. It is not just symbolic; it marks the beginning of a statewide political realignment,” Akpeki stated.
Other notable speakers included 2015 APC gubernatorial candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, NEXIM Bank Executive Director, Chief Stella Okotete, Senator Ighoyota Amori, and Ughelli North Local Government Chairman, Chief Jaro Egbo.
They all pledged commitment to the cause and reaffirmed the party’s determination to win future elections.
The meeting was attended by serving and former National and State Assembly members, federal appointees, state commissioners, party leaders, and the chairmen of the eight local government councils in Delta Central.
