The Edo State Government has partnered with stakeholders to provide free vaccination against diphtheria across the state.

This was disclosed by Mrs Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, during an address at the Government House in Benin City.

She called for proactive health measures to manage the outbreak, stressing the seriousness of diphtheria and the need for early detection and treatment.

“Diphtheria is a deadly disease. Those having symptoms should seek medical attention promptly,” she warned.

She encouraged residents to follow public health guidelines, report suspected cases, and ensure they and their families are vaccinated.

Mrs Anani emphasised that vaccination is critical in preventing the spread of the disease and protecting individuals and communities.

“Let us prioritise vaccination, especially for our children. It is very important,” she said.

She also underscored the importance of collaboration between government agencies, health workers, and local communities in curbing the outbreak. She urged residents to visit the nearest designated centres to receive the free vaccine.

The engagement concluded with the symbolic administration of the diphtheria vaccine to Mrs Anani and members of the Government House staff, reinforcing the government’s commitment to tackling the disease head-on.
