In a gesture of respect for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has announced the suspension of the official commissioning of 102 ultra-modern buses under the newly rebranded Edoline Mass Transit Scheme.

The commissioning, which was scheduled as a major public event to herald the state’s new transportation initiative, was put on hold following the announcement of Buhari’s death in a London clinic on Sunday.

Governor Okpebholo described the former president as “a towering figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey,” stating that holding a celebratory event at this time would be “insensitive and out of tune with the national mood.”

The governor condoled the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large, urging citizens to observe this period with solemnity.

He also apologized to guests and stakeholders for the inconvenience caused by the postponement and promised that a new date for the commissioning would be announced soon.

Despite the temporary delay, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving public transportation, pledging that the Edoline buses would soon become operational to ease mobility across the state.
