ATLANTA, USA — The School of Nursing, University of Benin Teaching Hospital International Alumni Association (SONUBTHAI), held a fundraising gala in Atlanta, Georgia, to support and enhance nursing education at their alma mater in Nigeria.
The event, themed, “The Future of the Nursing Profession at UBTH & UBTH College of Nursing Moving Forward,” attracted alumni, healthcare professionals, and dignitaries from around the world, including representatives from the National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNNA).
In her remarks, SONUBTHAI International President, Philomena Kerobo, thanked members for their trust and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to strengthening nursing education in Nigeria.
“It’s a great honour and privilege to welcome you all to our Biennial Fundraiser Convention and Gala Night,” she said.
“We’ve made significant strides, but our work is far from over.”
The keynote speaker, Mrs. Abieyuwa Eweka, Provost of the UBTH College of Nursing Sciences, travelled from Nigeria to attend the event in person.
Her presence was praised as a powerful symbol of dedication to the cause. “We are deeply grateful, Ma,” Kerobo said.
NANNNA President, Ms. Mercy Ekpoudom, commended SONUBTHAI for its enduring impact in uplifting nursing standards, empowering students, and improving infrastructure at the College of Nursing Sciences, UBTH.
The night’s fundraising efforts were directed towards youupgrading facilities, enhancing academic standards, and supporting the next generation of nurses in Edo State.
According to the organisers, proceeds from the gala will go toward expanding resources and opportunities for nursingp students at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital College of Nursing Sciences.
