ESAN WEST – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, says a major restructuring of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state is underway to accommodate the growing number of defectors joining the party.

He made the pledge during the campaign tour of Joe Ikpea, the APC candidate for the by-election to fill the vacant Edo Central Senatorial seat in the National Assembly to Ogwa, Ujogba (wards 1 and 2) and Illeh (ward 10) in Esan West Local Government Area, ahead of the election which holds on Saturday August 16, 2025

“When I promised Mr. President 2.5 million votes, somebody asked me where I was going to get it. But you can see it happening already. Today, the number of people I have received as decampees into APC is more than the number that was there before now,” Okpebholo said.

The governor said the influx of new members makes it necessary to “redefine and reposition” the party, adding that he would convene a meeting of defectors to strategize on their integration.

He was accompanied on the tour by top APC leaders, including Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.; Edo Central Senatorial leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd); and APC State Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh.

Okpebholo urged party members to remain united and committed, promising to strengthen the APC’s grassroots structures for future electoral victory.
