ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Senator-elect for Edo Central Senatorial District, Dr Joseph Ikpea, will on Thursday receive his Certificate of Return following his victory in the August 16 by-election.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said that the presentation of certificates to senators-elect and members of the House of Representatives-elect would take place at the commission’s headquarters at 3 p.m.
The senators-elect to receive certificates include those of Anambra South and Edo Central Senatorial Districts.
Members of the House of Representatives-elect from Ovia North-East and Ovia South-West Federal Constituency of Edo State, Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State and Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State will also be issued certificates.
Olumekun said that Certificates of Return for members-elect of State Houses of Assembly would be presented by Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in the respective state offices on Friday, August 22, at 11 a.m.
The affected constituencies are Ganye State Constituency of Adamawa, Onitsha North I State Constituency of Anambra, Basawa and Zaria/Kewaye State Constituencies of Kaduna, Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituencies of Kano, Okura State Constituency of Kogi, Munya State Constituency of Niger and Karim Lamido I State Constituency of Taraba.
He added that the commission has fixed Thursday, August 21, for the conclusion of the by-election in five polling units of Kaura Namoda South State Constituency in Zamfara where voting was earlier disrupted.
Olumekun recalled that INEC conducted 16 by-elections and two court-ordered rerun elections across the country on August 16, covering two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies and nine state assembly constituencies.
He noted that declarations had been made in all, but one constituency where the exercise was declared inconclusive.
