Wikki Tourists FC began their 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Plateau United in Bauchi, marking a triumphant return to the top tier after gaining promotion back to the NPFL.
The only goal of the match came in the 41st minute, when new signing Louis Dadong coolly slotted home a penalty, his first official goal for the club. That strike proved to be all the Bauchi-based side needed to secure the 3 points on home soil.
Wikki’s starting eleven featured several of its new signings, who gave a good account of themselves with a performance full of energy, discipline, and determination. The team missed multiple chances that could have made the scoreline more emphatic, but overall, the display was promising for the matches ahead.
In his post-match interview, Head Coach Abdu Maikaba expressed gratitude to God for the victory and praised his players’ performance:
”I’m happy with the result and the performance of my players. The scoreline could have been different, but for some tactical lapses. Alhamdulillah. I believe we will go far when the team fully blends, as some players have only been with us for ten days.
Stand-in Captain Yusuf Mohammed in an interview said they overjoyed by the victory and solicit for more understanding and prayers from their supporters.
Wikki Tourists travel to Kano to face Kano Pillars next week in what promises to be another thrilling NPFL encounter.
