UYO: The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has said that it has arrested two, out of five suspects for allegedly attempting to vandalise an electricity transformer at Ikot Idim Village in Ika Local Government Area.
DSP Timfon John, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Wednesday.
She said that the suspects were apprehended by a joint team of police, military, and vigilante operatives around 2 a.m. on August 24, following credible intelligence.
According to her, the suspects were caught while attempting to dismantle the transformer, but three of their accomplices escaped into a nearby bush.
Items recovered included two gas cylinders, a towing chain, two iron cutters, an oxygen nozzle, two long iron pipes, and two mobile phones.
John said the suspects confessed to the crime and assured that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the gang.
