Tragedy was reportedly averted in Benin City after a young lady identified as Momoh Joy Oiza narrowly escaped being lynched to death in a remote community near Evbuotubu but for the intervention of policemen on patrol .
Momoh Joy Oiza, who hails from Okene in Kogi State, reportedly relocated to Edo State to live with her mother after narrowly escaping desperately sinister plots by her kinsmen who forcibly wanted to perform female genital mutilation on her as part of condition to give her out in marriage after her secret sexual orientation was a allegedly uncovered as being bisexual, a family source confirmed.
According to an ancient folklore in Okene, young girls can only be given out in marriage after undergoing the mandatory practice of female genital mutilation to permanently nip in the bud fundamental issues associated with promiscuity and other unacceptable social behavioral patterns, hence the compulsory imposition of the scary practice of female genital mutilation in every family in Okene in Kogi State.
Having escaped from the scary practice of female genital mutilation which accounts for over 500 deaths in her hometown annually, Momoh Joy Oiza recently caught up with her worst nightmare again after relocating to her mother’s residence in Edo State.
However in June 2025, Momoh Joy Oiza who had gone shopping with her mother at a popular market close to Ugbiyhoko community was suddenly accosted by a group of women who publicly assaulted and accused her of running away from Okene in Kogi State only to seek refuge in Edo State after her sexual orientation was uncovered.
For Momoh Joy Oiza, running away from Okene seemed the only way out after her kinsmen compulsorily prescribed female genital mutilation to tame her and control her before being given out in marriage as part of cultural procedures to discourage her further involvement in the unlawful and sacrilegious act of same-sex practice.
A visibly shaken Momoh Joy Oiza was instantly rounded up by yourhs of the community along with women who angrily descended on her as chants of “runaway lesbian” were heard in the community as the the public assault continued on her.
The women further accused her of running away from Okene in Kogi State immediately after she was allegedly caught engaging in same-sex practice with another female partner in Okene, it was gathered.
According to the eldest woman among them who introduced herself as Mrs.Ronke Momoh, Momoh Joy Oiza reportedly escaped from Okene after elders of the community unanimously agreed to perform female genital mutilation on her.
Earlier on February 2 2023 Momoh Joy Oiza was kidnapped in Ojuelegba axis of Lagos State while seeking refuge away from her kinsmen in Okene.
it was further said that if female genital mutilation was performed on her, it would permanently discourage her from further engaging in the sacrilegious act of same-sex practice as plans by the family were already concluded to give her out in marriage as part of desperate measures to check her sexual orientation that was way overboard and becoming an embarrassment in the community.
However for the intervention of policemen on patrol, Momoh Joy Oiza and her mother were rescued from the violent torture by the mob from further assault as they were already circled up within the market environment, it was confirmed.
Meanwhile, the policemen were said to have fired teargas canisters to disperse the angry crowd and managed to rescue Momoh Joy Oiza and her mother who were later taken away in their patrol vehicle along with Mrs.Ronke Momoh to the station for further investigation into every allegations against Momoh Joy Oiza.
