BENIN CITY – Governor Monday Okpebholo has raised Edo State’s budget for agriculture from ₦4 billion to ₦70 billion so as to boost food production in the State
The governor said his administration is determined to turn Edo into a food hub with the establishment of three 3,000-hectare mega farms across the three senatorial districts.
In Edo South, the farms focus on rice, maize, cassava and vegetables.
Edo Central hosts yam, cocoa and beans plantations, while Edo North drives groundnut and grain production.
Tractors and fertilisers have been deployed statewide, while irrigation facilities are being provided to improve yields.
Okpebholo said the goal was to make Edo a net food exporter. “Edo will soon feed other states,” he said.
Farmers have commended the initiative, describing it as a turning point for agricultural development in the state.
