Political actors in Auchi community in Etsako West LGA of Edo State have adopted Hon Abubakar Igbei as their consensus candidate ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC primaries scheduled for November, 2025 with a view to boosting his chances of winning.
This was disclosed by the leader of APC in Auchi, Chief Jim Garuba, the Daodu of Usogun Village Auchi, who doubles as the leader of the party in Etsako West.
Chief Garuba said the decision was taken at a recent stakeholders meeting in Auchi which had political actors from across party lines participating.
The stakeholders he said, also resolved to get the buy-in of the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo and other notable leaders of the party in the Edo North Senatorial District, including the the APC State Chairman, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the Igbei’s chairmanship project to succeed.
The Auchi Community’s backing is expected to play a crucial role in Igbei’s bid to become the APC chairmanship Candidate for Etsako West LGA ahead of the main local government election.
The stakeholders described Hon Igbei as a well-established politician with a track record of community service which they believe he will bring to bear as chairman of the local government council.
The Auchi main opponent in the race Local Government chairmanship race, Uzairue, claims it has only had a chance to serve as chairman of the council between 1999 and 2003.
However, the Auchi community is pushing back, saying it’s time for fairness in the distribution of political offices, pointing out that Uzairue has already secured the senatorial seat through Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the APC state chairman, and has also received other key appointments.
They also contend that they have remained ardent supporters of the APC and all her candidates including Sen. Oshiomhole and Governor Monday Okpebholo, even where other communities prevaricated at the time.
