Dr Paul Umoh, a Board of Trustees (BOT) member, Life Camp Volleyball Club, has called for increased exposure, sponsorship and stronger structural support to revive volleyball in the country.
Umoh made the call in Abuja on Monday in an interview with newsmen at the ongoing 2025 Super Cup organised by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF).
He described the current state of volleyball in the country as challenging but filled with great potential.
“Sponsorship and adequate funding remain vital to the sport’s development,” he said.
According to him, although the volleyball community in Nigeria is growing, it can only become stronger with the right support systems in place.
Umoh identified lack of sponsorship as one of the major challenges confronting the sport, noting that many talented players were unable to progress due to insufficient backing from clubs and corporate organisations.
“With proper sponsorship, clubs will be in a better position to sign players on good contracts, keep them engaged and create long-term benefits for both the athletes and the sport,” he said.
He commended the NVBF for the visible improvements recorded in volleyball development drive across the country, while emphasising that sustained and continuous efforts were still required.
Umoh called on administrators, sponsors and other stakeholders to work collectively to make volleyball more attractive, competitive and sustainable in Nigeria.
Customs Volleyball Club defeated Life Camp Volleyball Club 3–0.
