Warri – The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso Abe I, has called for the adoption of a workable constitution that guarantees justice, fairness and a sense of belonging for all Nigerians, describing constitutional reform as urgent and critical to national unity and sustainable development.
The monarch made the call during the unveiling of his autobiography, Odyssey of Royalty: The Reign of Abe I, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, held at his palace in Effurun GRA, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. The ceremony formed part of activities marking his 18th coronation anniversary.
The event drew dignitaries from across the country, including representatives of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional rulers and other key stakeholders.
President Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who also chaired the occasion, commended the monarch for promoting peace and development in Uvwie Kingdom. He noted that the Ovie’s collaboration with federal authorities had strengthened grassroots governance, expressing pride in his leadership and wishing him good health and longevity.
Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Chief of Staff, described the ceremony as a celebration of legacy and enlightened leadership. He said the monarch’s reign had brought stability and steady development to the kingdom, adding that the autobiography would serve as an inspiration to emerging leaders. He reaffirmed the state government’s support for initiatives that promote education and social progress.
In his remarks, the royal father said the autobiography was written to preserve the history of the kingdom and provide an authentic account of his journey from private service to the throne. According to him, the book documents the challenges encountered, milestones achieved and the collective efforts that have shaped the growth of Uvwie Kingdom.
Reflecting on his 18 years on the throne, the monarch highlighted key accomplishments, including infrastructural development, enhanced security, socio-economic growth and the construction of a modern palace. He also disclosed that over 2,000 students had benefitted from scholarship schemes under his administration as part of efforts to promote education and youth empowerment.
On national issues, the monarch observed that although Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural resources and resilient citizens, it requires stronger unity and a functional constitutional framework to unlock its full potential. He urged leaders at all levels — including traditional and religious institutions — to work collaboratively with government in promoting peace, compassion and economic empowerment.
He further appealed to airline operators to review rising airfares, noting that high transportation costs discourage participation in national engagements. He reiterated that insecurity remains a pressing concern across the country.
The monarch expressed gratitude to the people of Uvwie Kingdom, friends of the kingdom and successive governments for their support, assuring that sustained collaboration would yield greater development.
He encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast, expressing confidence that the nation would overcome its current challenges.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages from traditional rulers, political leaders and community stakeholders, many of whom commended the Ovie’s dedication to service, integrity and inclusive leadership. They also encouraged the public to obtain copies of the autobiography.
The event concluded with prayers for lasting peace, progress and prosperity for Uvwie Kingdom, Delta State and the nation at large.
