… Urges compliance with new tax laws

BENIN CITY – The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Otunba Oladele Bankole-Balogun, has attributed the ongoing infrastructural development in the State to the consistent support and tax compliance of Edo citizens.

Speaking during the 2026 edition of the Run/Walk4Justice initiative, organised by Eghobamien & Eghobamien, in partnership with Perchstone & Graeys, Hon. Bankole-Balogun highlighted the critical role of taxpayers in fuelling the state’s growth agenda.

Representing the Chairman at the event, Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Courage Eboigbe, addressed this year’s theme, “Advancing Tax Knowledge and Education Among Nigerian Citizens.”

He reminded individuals, business owners, and employees that under the Nigerian Tax Administration Act 2025, registration as a taxpayer, obtaining a Tax Identification Number (TIN), and filing annual tax returns by March 31 are mandatory.

Mr. Eboigbe explained that taxpayers could easily secure their 13-digit TIN online via www.taxid.jrb.gov.ng, stressing the simplicity of digital registration.
He also commended Edo residents for their compliance, assuring that the revenue collected is being judiciously invested across all three senatorial districts, with visible benefits in infrastructure and public services.

Congratulating the organisers on the fifth edition of the road walk, he urged the continuity of the programme, noting that a healthy citizenry strengthens both sporting and economic activities, which in turn bolster the state’s tax base.

The Run/Walk4Justice drew a diverse turnout, including officials from the EIRS, Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), members of the legal profession, media personnel, and health and fitness enthusiasts.
