BENIN CITY – The Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesday summoned the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) over the persistent and worsening power outages across the state.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, gave the directive during plenary, ordering the electricity distribution firm to appear before lawmakers on March 9 to explain the epileptic supply that has left residents and businesses groaning.

Describing the situation as unacceptable and disheartening, Agbebaku lamented that despite the intervention of some lawmakers who procured transformers for their communities, BEDC allegedly insists on payment before energising the facilities.

He said the Assembly would demand clear explanations from the company and seek practical solutions to ease the hardship being experienced by electricity consumers across the state.

Power supply in several parts of Edo has remained irregular in recent weeks, triggering mounting complaints from households and business owners over the adverse impact on livelihoods and economic activities.
