President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to approve the nomination of Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance.

The request was conveyed in a letter read on the Senate floor by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, in line with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates legislative confirmation for ministerial appointments.

Oyedele was nominated by President Tinubu last week to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite. Following the reshuffle, Uzoka-Anite is expected to assume duties as Minister of State at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, marking her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.

The 50-year-old Oyedele is from Ikaram in Akoko area of Ondo State. Prior to his nomination, he served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system.
