The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has received equipment support from China-based manufacturer WKTT, which also pledged further assistance for player development across Africa.
At the 2026 WTT Contender Lagos ceremony, WKTT representative, Vera Ruijia Zhao, praised Nigeria’s rich table tennis talent, citing stars like Quadri Aruna and Olajide Omotayo.
She said the company remained committed to helping more African players fulfil their potential.
“I brought rubbers, blades, balls and other items from China, sponsored by WKTT, for donation across Africa.
“We want to help African players reach the next level because many young talents lack equipment.
“For young players, equipment is essential. Without it, they cannot even begin playing table tennis,” she said.
Zhao said the China-Africa cultural exchange year offered opportunities for Nigeria-China and Africa-China invitational tournaments in China.
She said the tournaments would give African players more opportunities to compete and improve their skills.
Zhao praised the performances of young Nigerian players, including children aged 10 and 11 competing strongly against international opponents.
“This is a positive sign for the future. There are more than 150 talented players here.
“If they maintain their passion and train properly, I hope to bring them to China for camps and tournaments.
“They need exposure, stronger competition and experience to build brighter careers,” Zhao said.
NTTF President, Adesoji Tayo, commended the support, describing it as vital for grassroots development.
“If we want to progress, we need quality equipment, replaced consistently, which is difficult because of the cost in Nigeria,” Tayo said.
He noted that Zhao had previously supported Aruna and Omotayo abroad before extending assistance to more Nigerian players.
“This is only the beginning of greater collaborations involving cultural exchanges, training opportunities and equipment support.
“It is significant because it gives us the opportunity to elevate the sport further,” he said.
Tayo also praised Zhao’s affection for Nigeria during her first visit to the country.
“She has shown genuine love for Nigeria, even styling her hair in Nigerian fashion.
“That passion and friendship are invaluable. We appreciate the partnership and will work to sustain and expand it,” he said.
