Blessing Ogundiran stormed to Nigeria women’s 100m title at the Commonwealth Games 2026 National Trials in Lagos yesterday.
She finish in a time of 11.12s ahead of Miracle Ezechukwu who ran a new Personal Best of 11.15s, while Olayinka Olajide in 11.28s rounded off the top three places.
Elsewhere, veteran runner Patience Okon-George won semifinal 1 of the women’s 400m, clocking a time of 52.15s.
Faith Ezechukwu was 2nd in a Personal Best of 53.20s, while Success Onyinyechi came 3rd in 54.37s.
In the men’s 100m, Favour Ashe, Chidera Ezeakor, Fakorede Adekalu, Tejiri Godwin and Enoch Adegoke all qualified for the semi finals of the event.
Ashe returned the best time in the heat, running a time of 10:24 seconds, followed by Chidera Ezeakor with a time of 10:26 seconds and Fakorede Adekalu who ran a time of 10:29 seconds.
Also, Tejiri Godwin ran a time of 10:31 seconds while Enoch Adegoke posted a time of 10:42seconds giving spectators what to savour in the semis tomorrow.
Athletes who meet set standards in various events at the trials will form a part of Nigeria’s track and field contingent to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The trials will end tomorrow at the Yaba College of Technology YABATECH sports complex in Lagos.
