El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri , weekend defeated
Ikorodu City of Lagos 1-0 to emerge champions of the 2026 President Federation Cup .
El-Kanemi Warriors’ experienced midfielder Muktari Ismail converted a first half spot kick to hand the Lagosians the1-0 defeat at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba in Delta state.
The 2026 federation cup triumph is the fourth one for the Maiduguri club. They won the third in 2024.
El-Kanemi showed determination from the start of the game in Asaba as they dominated possession throughout and prevented Ikorodu City from getting equalizer despite some dangerous counterattacks they pushed forward.
In spite of creating several promising openings, Ikorodu City failed to cause El-Kanemi’s disciplined defence any serious headache.
The victory earned El-Kanemi Warriors the consolation they deserved after their relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League, winning a place in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Meanwhile, Elkanemi Warriors midfielder Muktari Ismail won Most Valuable Player Award after their 1-0 victory over Ikorodu City.
