BENIN CITY-The Commissioner, representing Orhionmwon in the board of Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC) Honourable Osaretin Edoma, has charged electorates across the state on the need to conduct themselves in a manner that would make Saturday’s general elections credible and violence free.
Hon. Edoma made the charge yesterday in Benin City while reviewing the last presidential and National Assembly elections which saw the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), General Mohammadu Buhari (Rtd) emerged as the winner.
Edoma noted that the last election, was peaceful free and credible, especially in view of the large turn out of the electorate couple with satisfactory preparations made by INEC to check rigging.
He said that though the elections in Orhionmwon did not hold, due to what he described as inconsistency on the part of INEC, coupled with shaddy behaviour of some politicians to scuttle the election process, the use of the card reader machine was an indication that Nigeria’s democracy is advancing in age.
He congratulated the president –elect, Gen Buhari and his deputy, Prof. Osibanjo, for their victory over the incumbent president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
The commissioner, urged the people of Orhionmwon to come out enmasse to choose who will represent them without sentiment by voting for all the candidates of APC.
He also commended the leadership perseverance of President Jonathan to concede to defeat for the purposes of restoring peace in the country.
