Mogadishu City Club have taken only one point from their first two matches at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup despite giving themselves a platform to compete in both games.
The Somali champions opened Group B with a goalless draw against six-time winners Simba SC. Keeping the Tanzanian side out was a useful result, particularly in a group containing two clubs from one of the region’s strongest domestic leagues.
Their second outing began even better. Naby Bangoura beat Singida Black Stars goalkeeper Yona Amosi after 10 minutes, putting Mogadishu City ahead against the defending Kagame Cup holders.

The lead against Singida lasted only three minutes. Henry David equalised before Mathew Tegisi made it 2-1 in the 16th minute, changing the direction of the match in a short and damaging spell.
Mogadishu City tried to find a way back, but Singida’s defensive line held firm. David scored his second goal shortly before half-time, leaving the Somali side with a two-goal deficit at the break.
Tegisi added another in the 53rd minute to complete a 4-1 win for the Tanzanian club.
The result was difficult to reconcile with Mogadishu City’s opening minutes. Bangoura’s goal had given them something to protect, yet Singida needed only six minutes to move from 1-0 down to 2-1 ahead.
That loss also changed the value of the draw against Simba. A point against one of the tournament’s established clubs looked encouraging on the opening day. After the heavy defeat to Singida, it is no longer enough to leave Mogadishu City in a comfortable position.
The contrast between the two performances is clear. Against Simba, the Somali club completed the match without conceding but could not score. Against Singida, they found an early goal but could not keep the contest under control.
Jamus SC lead Group B with four points after beating Singida 2-0 and holding Simba to a goalless draw. Singida have three points, Simba have two and Mogadishu City sit on one.
A win on Friday would take Mogadishu City to four points, although their final position would also depend on the result between Singida and Simba.
Jamus have already shown that they are more than group outsiders. The South Sudanese side defeated the holders in their first match and then kept another clean sheet against Simba.
Mogadishu City therefore face a team that has yet to concede in the tournament. Another bright opening may help, but this time the Somali champions need the rest of the match to follow it.
