Benin: The Edo Government has presented a cash reward of N1 million to Daniel Osagiobare, the fourth best candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Osagiobare, an Edo indigene, also emerged as the highest scoring candidate from the South South region after scoring 368 in the examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Presenting the cash reward during a reception organised in honour of the student by the state government, the Edo Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa said the gesture was in recognition of his outstanding academic performance.
Idahosa also said that the award was intended to encourage academic excellence among students in the state.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to promoting quality education and creating an enabling environment for young people to realise their potential.
“The future of our nation lies in the hands of brilliant young minds like Daniel. We will continue to celebrate and encourage excellence in every sector,” he said.
The deputy governor urged the student to remain focused on his academic pursuits and assured him of the state’s continued support for exceptional talents.
Responding, Osagiobare thanked the deputy governor for the recognition and financial support, describing the gesture as an encouragement to strive for greater academic success.
The student’s father, Christopher Osagiobare, also appreciated the Edo government for recognising his son’s achievement, saying the reward would motivate other young people to pursue academic excellence. (NAN)
