Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have moved up one place in the latest FIBA World Ranking despite recording just one victory in their most recent window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.
D’Tigers suffered defeats to Cameroon and South Sudan before responding with a victory over Cape Verde in their final game of the qualifying window.
The result has seen Nigeria climb to 52nd in the world, while retaining their position as the eighth-ranked team in Africa.
South Sudan continue to lead the continent in the latest ranking. The Bright Stars are ranked 24th in the world and first in Africa, maintaining their status as the continent’s highest-ranked men’s basketball team.
Nigeria will be hoping to build on their latest ranking improvement as preparations continue for the remaining stages of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
