Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe has reaffirmed Tanzania’s position as one of the co-hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), insisting there will be no alternative plan for the tournament.
Motsepe revealed that he had previously been told Tanzania might not be ready to host the competition and was advised to consider a Plan B or Plan C.
However, the CAF president dismissed concerns surrounding the country’s preparations, saying some negative reports circulating in the media contain misinformation.
“From CAF’s perspective and personally, there is never going to be Plan B or Plan C, and never will there be,” Motsepe said.
He added that CAF would continue to work closely with Tanzania to address areas where progress needs to be accelerated ahead of the tournament.
Motsepe said he had received extensive reports on the country’s preparations and expressed confidence that the necessary work would be completed in time for a successful AFCON 2027.
The CAF president is expected to return to Tanzania in January 2027 for a final assessment of the country’s readiness to host the continental showpiece.
Tanzania will co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Uganda, with preparations across the three East African countries continuing ahead of the tournament.
