…charges ICAN Benin & District Society on patriotism, professionalism and tax awareness drive
The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Mr. John Odior, has been honoured by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Benin & District Society in recognition of his visionary leadership, outstanding reforms in tax administration and commitment to fiscal responsibility in Edo State.
The award was presented on Tuesday, 29th September 2026, by the 34th Chairman of the Society, Dr. (Mrs.) Ijeoma Emuze, FCA, during a courtesy visit to the EIRS Corporate Head Office.
Dr. Emuze said the Society commended Mr. Odior’s exceptional leadership qualities, the tax reforms implemented under his watch, and his contribution to the development of the accounting profession.
“We are here to appreciate you for your support and active participation in the activities of the Institute, and to present the newly elected and inaugurated executives of the Society,” she said.
She also informed the EIRS boss of the 13th Edition of the Elder Sunday Nosakhare Memorial Lecture, scheduled for 1st October 2026.
Responding, Mr. Odior thanked the Society for the recognition and described ICAN as Nigeria’s foremost accounting institute, owing to its strategic role and firm stance on professionalism.
He disclosed that, under his leadership, the Service has strengthened and professionalised its workforce, increasing the number of chartered accountants on its staff from fewer than twenty to almost forty.
The EIRS chairman urged the newly elected Chairman and members of the Society to be more patriotic in upholding the ideals of statehood, and to encourage all taxable individuals and corporate organisations to fulfil their civic responsibilities within approved timelines.
He further called on ICAN to join the campaign to increase taxpayer awareness and sensitization, particularly at the sub-national level.
