BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to education, assuring that adequate budgetary provisions would be made for educational institutions to improve teaching standards and prepare students for future challenges.
The Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, stated this while representing Governor Monday Okpebholo at the National Annual Dinner of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA), held at the weekend in Benin City.
Rt.Hon.Idahosa commended the association for its initiative to promote the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into conventional teaching methods, noting that the approach would enhance learning and equip students with the skills required to adapt to emerging technological innovations.
He said the Edo State Government attached great importance to education, stressing that the sector remained a priority of the Okpebholo-led administration, hence the commitment to adequate budgetary allocation for educational institutions across the state.
The Deputy Governor also thanked the association for choosing Benin City as the venue for its National Annual Dinner, describing the gathering as an opportunity to strengthen relationships and promote initiatives aimed at advancing education.
The dinner, which brought together old students, academics, captains of industry and other dignitaries, was organised to raise funds for the rehabilitation of existing facilities and the construction of new infrastructure at Government College Ughelli.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Michael Diejomaoh, urged old students and guests to contribute generously towards improving teaching standards and providing a conducive learning environment for students.
The guest lecturer, Prof. Douglason Omotor, also advocated the integration of Artificial Intelligence into conventional teaching methods to prepare students for future technological advancements.
The event was attended by the President General Worldwide of GCUOBA, His Royal Majesty, Albert Akpomudje, SAN, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom, who commended the Benin Branch for what he described as the best hosting of the association’s national dinner.
Akpomudje noted that the occasion was particularly significant as it marked his last National Annual Dinner as President General Worldwide, with elections into a new National Executive Council scheduled to hold in four months.
