Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo says he is determined to win Igueben Local Government Area for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, despite losing the area in his previous senatorial and governorship contests.
Governor Okpebholo made the declaration on Thursday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) grassroots mobilisation tour of Igueben and Esan West local government areas of Edo.
He said he was determined to change the electoral record in Igueben and make history by delivering the area for Tinubu come 2027 election.
“You know I have never won election in Igueben. I did not win Igueben while I contested for Senate, I did not win while I was contesting for governorship. I want to win it now to make history,” he said.
The governor recalled that during a previous campaign visit, he promised to construct a road in the community if he secured the required percentage of votes.
He said work had commenced on the road project, assuring residents that his administration remained committed to fulfilling its promises.
“Today, work is ongoing on that road, and I want to make history by winning Igueben for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election”.
While in Ebelle, Governor Okpebholo also said his administration had approved a hospital for the community and appealed to residents to vote for the APC in the Jan. 16 2027 election.
He urged the people to support the APC candidate for the Edo State House of Assembly, describing him as an experienced representative who would work directly with his administration.
Speaking in Esan West local government area, the governor said he was impressed by the large turnout at the mobilisation exercise, expressing confidence that the APC would win overwhelmingly in the 2027 general elections.
“History will be made in January, where our 2.5 million votes will be achieved, because our president is a good man,” he said.
He also advocated the establishment of state police, describing it as a solution to insecurity that could also create employment opportunities.
Addressing supporters in Ekpoma, he described the turnout as a demonstration of support for Tinubu, adding that the president would reward the people with critical infrastructure if re-elected.
He assured residents that his administration would continue to execute projects aimed at improving their living conditions.
Earlier, the Edo APC Chairman, Mr Jarrett Tenebe, commended the governor’s performance, saying his achievements were visible to residents.
Tenebe urged party members to mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates, saying the party was determined to improve its electoral performance.
He also urged voters to consider candidates’ connections to their constituencies, questioning the suitability of a candidate he alleged was not originally from Esanland.
Some residents at the campaign venue expressed satisfaction with what they described as the governor’s achievements, pledging to vote for APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
