PORT HARCOURT – Chief Andrew Uchendu a member of the House of Representatives, has advised the people of Rivers to remain calm and law abiding despite the outcome of the elections held in the state.
Uchendu, (APC-Emohua/Ikwerre Constituency) told newsmen in Port Harcourt that he and his constituents did not vote in the March 28 and April 11 elections in the state.
Uchendu, who contested the National Assembly poll for Rivers East Senatorial District on the platform of the APC, said that despite the outcome of the polls, he was grateful to Rivers people for showing love and desire to cast their ballots.
“Since you did not vote and INEC has released the results of an election that never held, my advice to you is to keep calm, be law abiding because anything built on faulty foundation will surely collapse,’’ he said.
According to him, international observers have condemned the elections held in the state and described them as falling below the guidelines set by INEC.
Uchendu said that as a candidate, he followed the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines for the general elections.
“I campaigned and prepared for the elections,’’ he said.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers, Mrs Gesila Khan, said elections were held in the state on March 28 and April 11.
She said re-run elections would be held in units where the polls were inconclusive or marred by malpractice.
