BENIN CITY – The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Council, Comrade Emmanuel Ademokun has been re-elected for another term in office.
Ademokun was returned unopposed during the 2015 state delegates conference held yesterday in Benin City.
Speaking, the Chairman NLC, Edo State, Comrade Emmanuel Ademokun promised to operate such policies that would guarantee workers welfare in the state.
He listed some of his areas of priorities to include the ongoing judicial workers strike, casualisation of workers, pension, weight-in-allowance for media practitionisation, and non-regularization of workers’ on promotions since 2013, among others.
He noted that despite the highlighted challenges, the union has been able to achieve certain heights in the past four years.
He outlined some of the achievements to include the realization of the N18,000 minimum wage, re-opening of Edo Line Transport Company, 10 percent salary relativity, establishment of state secretorate for the council, training/retraining of workers’ as well as giving support to the NLC women committee.
Ademokun who disclosed that the council would not have been able to achieve such, but for the support of the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, however reassured of his administration’s commitment to lead workers to the promise land.
The Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said only the solidarity was a sure way to winning all struggles.
The governor asserted that before his administration the people were faced with the challenges of human capital/infrastructural development, adding that the present administration has been able to ameliorate the people from the shackles of bad governments.
The governor who was represented by the commissioner for Special Duties, Comrade Didi Adodo, expressed optimism that the President –elect, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari would provide the desired leadership that would replicate what the Comrade governor Oshiomhole is currently doing at the Federal level.
He commended the council for the achievements so far recorded in the past and charged the incoming executive to step up effort in view of moving the council forward.
