JOHANNESBURG – Nigerians residents in Johannesburg, South Africa have called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to expedite action in fixing the epileptic power supply in Nigeria in order to attract Nigerians abroad to bring home their investment.
The call became necessary following the backdrop of xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa, particularly Nigerians that were brutally attacked with some losing their lives during the period.
A statement signed by the Speaker, Edo Club Johannesburg, South Africa, Godfrey A. Iyasere and sent through an email to The NIGERIAN OBSERVER in Benin titled “Stop this Barbaric Act Xenophobia in South Africa” urged the Nigerian Government to protect and secure their lives from the unwholesome behaviour of South Africans.
He also called on both Federal and Edo State government to speed up action and workout modalities of creating an enabling environment for them at home in order to boost infrastructural development, particularly in the area of agriculture.
The Speaker chronicled the statement of the King of Zulu, Goodwill Zwelithini, which says “it was high time that foreigners pack their bags and go back to their countries”, saying the statement triggered the killing, burning of houses and looting of their property worth millions of naira.
According to him, “during this killings and burning alive of foreign black Africans, the law enforcement agents (police) were watching, smiling and celebrating without acting Nigerians lost properties worth millions of rands.
While appreciating the government, Civil Society members and other Human Right activists in Nigeria over their spontaneous reaction and condemnation of xenophobic, Speaker Iyasere however appealed to Nigerians to still keep the Nigerian flag flying even at the stress of the battle.
