Chelsea cast-off Mohamed Salah will receive a Premier League winners’ medal – despite playing just 30 minutes for the Blues this season.
The Egyptian, who was shunted off on loan to Fiorentina mid-season, has been invited by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to the end-of-season clash with Sunderland on May 24 when the trophy and medals will be presented.
Salah’s fleeting trio of appearances came as a substitute against Swansea, Crystal Palace and Tottenham.
Players previously had to make five appearances to be eligible for a medal, down from an initial minimum of 10 games, but the rules have now been relaxed to give the club discretion over where the 40 allocated medals end up.
Andre Schuerrle, who joined Wolfsburg in a £22 million deal in February, will also receive his medal after making 14 appearances for Chelsea earlier in the season.
“Jose Mourinho sent me a text to say that I’d get a medal and he asked me to come to the last game,” he said. “That was very nice for me.
“I’m really happy for the boys. They played a very good second half of the season so of course, for me, it’s good to get a medal but the boys did the work.”
