KADUNA – The Prison Command in Kaduna State has applauded Governor. Mukhtar Yero for facilitating the release of 569 prison inmates in an effort to decongest prisons in the state.
The Controller, Malam Abubakar Garba, made the commendation when he received officials of two faith-based organisations that visited him.
“ We are really happy with the outgoing governor of the state for his support for Kaduna prison and the inmates.
“You can recall that few months back, the government freed 569 inmates and we commend him for that.”
Garba said that the gesture had enhanced the prison environment and improved living standard of inmates.
“We hope the incoming government of Nasir El-Rufai will continue from where the outgoing government has stopped in terms of prison decongestion. “
The controller appealed to philantropists, corporate bodies and civil society groups to support efforts to impart skills to prison inmates, so as to change their lives.
In his remark, the Founder, Youth Rehabilitation Centre, Rigasa, Malam Lawal Maduru commended the controller for his efforts to rehabilitate inmates in his care.
He advised the youths to desist from engaging in activities that would lead them to prison.
Also speaking, pastor Yohanna Buru of Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation, said the visit was to strengthen existing relationship between them.
He said that the main aim of the foundation was to promote peace and mutual respect between Christians and Muslims in the state.
Buru appealed to all Nigerians to support prisoners by providing them with learning and skills acquisition materials.
According to him, such support will help in training them to become self reliant and useful to society after their release.
