Lagos – Some National athletes may miss the 2015 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Youth Championships scheduled to begin on July 15 in Cali, Colombia over the inability of the federation to secure transit visas.
Olukayode Thomas, the spokeman of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Saturday that one of the countries through which the team planned to transit to Columbia failed to grant transit visas.
He said the athletes and their officials were expected to travel to Colombia through Brazil, whose Embassy in Lagos refused to grant the transit visas to the national team.
“Because if this, the athletes may miss the 2015 IAAF World Youth Championship, to hold in Cali, Colombia next week.
“The athletes are to travel to Colombia via Brazil. The federation is looking at an alternative option to ensure that the athletes make the trip.
“It will be unfair for the athletes to miss a competition that they had prepared hard for,” Thomas said.
