BENIN CITY-The Edo State government has given N1.5m each to the children of two policemen shot dead during Igarra bank attack in Akoko-Edo local government area of the state, last November.
The Commissioner of police Mr Chris Ezike presented the cheques to the bereaved children at the state police command headquarters, Benin City, yesterday.
He maintained that the gesture was in fulfilment of the pledge earlier made by the state governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole at the wake of the unfortunate incident.
CP Ezike enjoined the recipients to make judicious use of the money.
Danjuma Joseph Musa who spoke for the families thanked the Edo State government and the police command for the gesture.
Wives of the two slain officers Mrs Joy Musa and Mrs Dorcas Nehemiah were at the presentation ceremony.
It will be recalled that the slain officers Sgt. Nehemiah Kusaman and Sgt. Amadu Muse received posthumous awards from the Commissioner of police Mr Chris Ezike in Benin City, recently.
The Edo State Government while commending the police for reducing crime to its barest minimum in the state, recently pledged to pay the sum of N1.5m each to families of two policemen killed during the recent Igarra bank robbery in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State.
The Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole represented by the state Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation Prince Kassim Afegbua stated this at the 2016 Police Officers Get-to-together Party in Benin City.
“The CP has done well, he has made the IG proud, the CP deserves a standing ovation.
“I assured you that the promise of N1.5m will be redeemed when the Comrade Governor returns”. The gov. rep remarked.
Also recalled that policemen in collaboration with hunters and vigilante group at Igarra repelled the broad day armed robbers.
Cache of arms and ammunition, explosives and cash were recovered from the robbers who equally lost some of their members as others were later arrested and charged to court.
