Lagos – Oba of Ikateland, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, and Secretary, Elegushi Properties Investment Company Limited, Chief Muritala Adedoyin Elegushi, are facing a contempt charge and may be committed to prison.

This is over contempt charge filed against them before a Federal High Court in Ikoyi.

A case was earlier filed before Justice Muslim Hassan who had ordered a status quo ante belliun pending the determination of a pending suit.

Prince Toluwaleke Megba and Lucky Megba Ojonla Nigeria Limited had sought the court for an order of injunction restraining the National Inland Waterways Authority, Lagos State Government, Attorney General of Lagos State, Oba Elegushi, Chief Elegushi and Van Oord Nigeria Limited whether by themselves, agents, servants, privies, or otherwise from hindering or further hindering, obstructing or further obstructing, encumbering or in any manner disturbing or further disturbing the right of way of the Lekki foreshore of the Lagos Lagoon granted to the plaintiffs by the first defendant in the survey plan No CSR/LA97/437 dated July 16, 1997.

The plaintiffs lawyer, Ehis Okoebor, from Festus Keyamo chambers, informed the court that the Oba Elegushi, Chief Elegushi and Van Oord Nigeria Limited are trespassing on the subject matter of this suit and urged the court to order parties maintain status quo.

In an affidavit in support of the application (form 48), the plaintiffs claimed that despite the ruling, the defendants and their agents (Czar Engineering Nigeria Limited) have continuously disobeyed the orders of court.

They alleged that the defendants erected fence round the subject matter and mount their sign post with inscription “this land belongs to Elegushi Royal Family” on the premises after the order of the court.

They prayed the court that unless they are committed to prison, the contemnors and others at large will continue to disobey the court’s order with impunity and will certainly not obey any further order or directives given by the court.
