BENIN – THE Ewere family in Benin City have raised alarm over the poor response by the Police to the series of mysterious deaths which has been visited on the family innote last 16-years.

Mr. Osahon Benjamin Ewere who is the spokesperson for the family, in a press statement made available to newsmen said their uncountable protests to the Police have not paid off as no arrests have been made of the people who the family believe are behind the killings.

He said that the Ewere family have proof that a notorious trafficking syndicate (name withheld) is behind the killings following a threat in the past by a member of the family and whistle blower, Amos Ewere, to expose their nefarious activities after they attacked and killed his Father.

He said, trouble started for the family, “16years ago, on August 4, 2004 to be precise, as Mr. Emmanuel Ewere was brutally assassinated in his shop along Igbinosa Street in Uselu area of Benin City in the presence of his wife, Felicia”.

He added that, “The family reported the murder to the Police and included such evidences as the threat letter to his father by the syndicate as well as fetish materials they allegedly deposited at the shop premises”.

“Amos later investigated and exposed the trafficking syndicate for the abduction of a female family friend who was tricked and sold into sex slavery abroad even as her parents here in Nigeria were being suppressed and extorted on the excuse that their child owed them money abroad”.

He said that shortly after His expose on the syndicate, in 2005, his elder sister, Mrs Juliet Egboh (nee Ewere) suddenly died while on a visit to Benin city whereupon an autopsy confirmed that she was a victim of poison.

After this incident he said the family again protested to the Police who said investigation was ongoing amidst the syndicate’s threats to wipe out the Eweres from the face of the Earth.

“This actually led to my entire family moving out of Edo state as the losses had become unbearable and for fear of the unknown”.

” The syndicate did not stop as they abducted and killed Amos Ewere himself under mysterious circumstances on December 6 2016 while he was visiting Benin City”.

Mr Ewere said the few surviving members of the family including Micah Ewere and the 4 children of his late sister have been forced into hiding as they no longer feel safe anywhere in Nigeria because from all indications the syndicate will make good on its threat to erase the family as it said.

He has however appealed to other law enforcement agencies to come to their rescue since the matter appear to have overwhelmed the Police.
