BENIN CITY – Management and players of Edo Queens football club of Benin have passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Governor Godwin Enoghehase Obaseki,his deputy Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu and his entire team for the priority the present administration has accorded sports in Edo state.
Captain of the women team Osawaru Jennifer made the commendation while reflecting on the encouragement and motivating efforts of the governor and his deputy since they assumed office.
She said that they have never had it so good. She added that the love, care and concern Obaseki and his deputy have shown to sports men and women in the state is a big challenge.
She said that the only way to reciprocate is to work hard to win laurels for the state,promising that players and management team of the club would continue to appreciate what government is doing in the sports circle. She highlighted the reconstruction of Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, incentives for performers and words of encouragements by the Governor and his deputy as enough reason to for sports men to want to work harder for success.
On the women AITEO Cup,the skipper said that they are battle ready to face any team,adding that their main aim is to win all the available laurels in the female category for Edo State.
“On behalf of my teammates and the management crew, I want to commend the state government for their love, care, concern and supports that they have given us so far. We are very happy to have a pragmatic governor like His Excellency Godwin Enogheghase Obaseki, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu. Edo State is actually regaining her position in the country. For us in Edo Queens fc, this is just the beginning; we are working very hard to ensure that we gain more prominence in this football business, representing Edo State and Nigeria in International competitions.”
“You will agree with me that Edo State has produced great footballers in all categories that have represented the country at International levels.
Our target as female footballers is to return Edo state glory in female football, play for Nigeria both on the local and International scene. And I want to use this medium to assure our teeming supporters in Edo that Edo Queens are out to surprise people this season.
“We want to appeal to our fans to continue supporting us, we promised not to let them down.”
She expressed disappointment over the postponement of their round of 16 match against opponent from Delta State, Olori Babes FC who could not get to the match venue Wednesday in Nanka,Anambra State, following their involvement in auto accident, but she however thanked God for sparing the lives of the team.
She said that Edo Queens are ready any day the NFF decides to fix for the game.
