BENIN CITY – Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has revealed that golf was a game for the matured minds.

He said this yesterday as he promised government’s support towards the effective hosting of the 25th Ladies Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) “Open Tournament,” which runs from October 31-November 3, 2019.

Comrade Shaibu said government was interested in it because the tournament would provide fertile opportunity to showcase Edo State rich cultural heritage.

He observed, “Edo State is fortunate to have the number one citizen, Godwin Obaseki, a golfer, who in his magnanimity has succeeded at making all executive members co-golfers by supporting them to be members of the prestigious Benin Club.”

Shaibu reiterated that the discipline gained from golfing would soon start showing in governance, saying that “Golfing is not only about hitting balls but after playing nine holes you can tell a greedy person from an honest one”.

He noted that Edo State was hospitable, attracting goodwill due to the governor’s ability at redefining governance which has led to people building their homes without fear of harassment from the activities of the community development association(CDA) which hindered development.

This prevailing goodwill, he said, has led to the visit from the economic team of the United States and many others.

Earlier, Lady Captain Habiba Oyeghe Oyarekhua who led BCGS past lady captains and lady golfers on the courtesy visit solicited for government while giving updates on preparations towards the tournament. She appreciated the Deputy Governor for bringing his wife to join the female golf team.
