BENIN CITY – An American-based businessman and philanthropist, Dr.Billy Osawaru aspiring to contest for the Uhumnhode /Orhiomnwon federal constituency seat in the forthcoming general election has assured that he will empower over 50% youths as part of development plans for his constituents if elected.
Dr.Billy Osawaru, who is aspiring on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections, made the assurance amongst other issues in an interview with newsmen recently in Benin city.
Speaking with newsmen, the philanthropist said that his goal if elected to represent Uhunmhode /Orhionmwon federal constituency would be to empower over 50% youths of his constituency within a period of 4 years in office adding that he has been running a youth empowerment program with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) for the past 6years.
According to him, grants have been sourced from Italian ,German and U.S.A governments through his youth initiative scheme with some private investors in the state to train Uhunmhode / Orhionmwon youths wherein they too can be employers of labour.
He said “I have been sponsoring a program with the NDE for the past 6 years and by that I make money available for these youths to receive training in my constituency because if they are not gainfully employed then they can be employers of labour.
” there is one training currently going on whereby we are taking them to Cyprus for a 4-year program where everything is going to be paid for and the youths get some stipends and by the time the youths return, they become gainfully employed by BMW or COSCHARIS.
“If elected to represent the Uhunmhode/Orhionmwon federal constituency, I will continue with sponsoring of the youth empowerment/development scheme because when other youths begin to see the benefits they would want to key into it” Billy added.
Participants from his constituency, according to the philanthropist, after the NDE training would be able to access soft loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria adding that a trainee recently received a loan of 3million naira to support the development of his entrepreneurial scheme.
