Investigation by our crime reporter reveals that the death of a young man, Osayi Obaseki in the room of his gay partner, Edeghonghon Anetor in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State on May 15, 2014. Prompted this protest
It was gathered that Edeghonghon, a bisexual, who hails from Illeh but came to Ekpoma to work in his uncle’s farm. His gay partner, Osayi came to visit him in Ekpoma and passed the night there
It was further gathered that it was the shout of Edeghonghon the next morning that attracted one of his neighbours and when he entered the room he saw the naked and lifeless body of Osayi. The neighbour accused him of killing Osayi because of the taboo they were were in. He held Edeghonghon and started shouting for help from other neighbours. Edeghonghon wrestled himself from the neighbour’s grip and ran away , he escaped being lynched to death for his abominable same sex act.
A close family source of Edeghonghon told our reporter that he came to Illeh to hide. The family who were angry with him for disgracing them pursued him.
It was gathered that the late Osayi family is after him. He was accused of luring their son into the same sex act activity.
They want him to pay for the death of Osayi.
When contacted the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police, Irrua could not be reached for comment, but a Police source said that a manhunt for Edeghonghon Anetor has already been launched and he has been declared wanted
The whereabout of Edeghonghon Anetor is unknown as he has fled to avoid been killed or persecuted
In Nigeria, same sex activities is a criminal offence and it carries a maximum of fourteen years imprisonment. While it is a taboo and unpardonable abomination in Nigerian tradition. Offenders are usually stoned to death.
