Mandy was born with everything at her beck and call, she had any and everything to her use, life to her was a luxury. However, Mandy ended up in penury. Why? She wanted to blend with the trend, hence, ended up in bad company and on the wrong side of life. She squandered her father’s wealth because she lacked the requisite knowledge to manage and invest in order to yield more wealth. Mandy ended up being a pauper, from grace to grass, riches to penury.
Silver spoon is synonymous with wealth, especially inherited wealth; someone born into a wealthy family is said to have “been born with a silver spoon in his mouth”. It signifies someone born into wealth, riches and privileges.
Mandy’s story and scenario makes me wonder if being born with a silver spoon guarantees long-lasting riches.
Many rich folks spend massively on their children without training and equipping them on how to make wealth, how to start up businesses that will blossom, and in turn make them wealthy, on the secrets to successful businesses and entrepreneurship. It’s not enough that you have riches; there is also a need to train your children to have such mentality, to grow in like manner, and to have such mindset as well.
Furthermore, it is pertinent to note that being born with a silver spoon is not a sure guarantee for wealth for life. Several stories abound of how children of wealthy men and women squander their parents’ riches, mesmerizing all around, and at the end, they are back to nothingness.
Anita Held once said; “there is no disgrace in working. There was no silver spoon around at the time I was born”. This further buttresses the fact that your riches is not based on the fact that you were born with a silver spoon; many people have worked hard to attain wealth and riches in life; and on the other hand many people who were born into riches spent it lavishly and end up as paupers.
However this is not to say that there are no people who were born into wealth, and were wealthy all through their lifetime, however these people also worked to ensure that they have maintained their parents’ wealth, kept their parents legacy, and as well, built on the existing and laid down fortune, hence they became richer, more influential than their parents.
Van Morrison wrote; “I’ve never felt like I was born with a silver spoon at all, although I’ve felt like howling at the moon a lot of times!” This clearly shows that it’s not about being born into opulence, in fact, it’s better not to put your hope on the wealth of your parents, rather work hard for yours. It’s possible to be born with a silver spoon, and you could act like there is nothing by taking your gaze off the laid down wealth and riches, and look forward to attaining yours.
In addition, many of the world’s notable personality who rose to utmost heights in their various fields were not born with silver spoons. Notable amongst them is Ben Carson who was not born into a rich family; in fact, it was his mother Sonya who worked hard to ensure that her children went to school; she single-handedly trained her children through school. However, one inspiring thing about her is the fact that she always encouraged her children to believe in themselves, never to give up in life, and to always strive for excellence and greatness. Sonya was indeed key to Ben Carson’s success story who became well-known and popular for his ground-breaking and breath-taking work of being the first neurosurgeon to separate two conjoined twins. Just like Ben Carson, several people exist who were not born into riches but they worked ceaselessly hard to become rich and notable. Mariah Carey grew up in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Long Island; she lacked toys and other fun things that children of her age had. She later moved to NYC to try her luck; and then she met a Columbia records executive by coincidence at a party, and not very long after, she was introduced to the world. In like manner, the famous singer, Justin Bieber was nearly miserably poor; before becoming famous, he grew up in a rat-infested home with an empty fridge, had to sleep on a pull-out couch and lived off a diet consisting mostly of macaroni and cheese. However, today he is worth around $65 million.
Halle Berry, who is also known as an Oscar-winning actress and international beauty, grew in a homeless shelter. At the age of 21, this star never gave up and had no financial help from her parents. Now, she’s a multiple award winner and an unforgettable talent. Also, the popular Jay-z who is the leader of a real financial empire grew up in a family where even bread was a luxury item. Ever since he was a child he got used to violence and lack of money, but through ambition he managed to become one of the richest men in the world.
Also there are people who were born rich and also grew to be richer and more notable than their parents’. Examples of these people are Ariana Grande whose father built a very successful design company over the years; he is the CEO of Ibi Designs Inc, based out of Boca Raton Rla; and she is well blossoming with her recoding career. Jordin Sparks as well whose dad is Philippi Sparks, a former NFL corner back who played for the N.Y. Giants and the Dallas Cowboys, while her mother Jodi, is an entrepreneur even though she was born into affluence, Jordin made a name for herself after winning season 6 of ‘American Idol’, becoming the youngest champ in the show’s history, she still had it pretty good in the money department before hitting it big. Whether you were born with a silver spoon or not doesn’t matter at all, what matters is that you strive to be the best wherever you are. Even if you were born in shanties, it makes no difference at all, what matters is that you work hard for the best.
It’s very saddening to note that some people regret and wish they were born into a rich home; some even go to the extent of cursing their parents for not being rich, and they compare themselves to children born into rich families. However, all these should not discourage anyone, the fact that your parents were born poor shouldn’t limit your ability or mentality; you should look beyond your immediate environment, and endeavor to succeed in life, involve yourself in a legitimate job or business.
Israel Ayivor wrote; “you don’t have a silver spoon in your mouth. You have a golden spoon in your palms. Use it and feed yourself”. This clearly shows that you have something inside of you; use it, and be the best you can be. Whether you were born into opulence or not doesn’t matter at all, you can still rise to be rich; you can still be greater than those born into riches because you have a golden spoon in your palms; use it and transform your life around.
Furthermore, those that are not born with a silver spoon may encounter more hurdles and challenges, because they do not have luxuries at their disposal. However, with determination and resilience, they can scale through these hurdles and come out outstanding in life.
Israel Ayivor wrote; “success is not reserved for a selected group of people who have silver spoons in their mouth. Those who have golden spoons in their hands can equally be satisfied by guiding their faiths to feed their dreams”. You may not be born with a silver spoon, but you have dreams and the ability is in you to make these dreams into fruition or existence. The difference between riches and poverty is hardwork; opulence and penury is making your dreams a reality.
A rich man was once asked what the secret of his numerous wealth, he answered and said; “work”, he was asked again and he said; “work”, he was asked the third time and he gave the same answer, “work!”. There is no magic to riches; the only secret to long-lasting riches is hardwork. A famous pastor once shared his experience of how he entered into a plane, on a first class ride, and while they were on the journey, there was a man by his side who was busy studying; he wanted to emulate this man, but he however slept off; when he woke up he met this same man busy; he slept again, woke up and still met this man studying. He was so amazed at this,, and wanted to find out who the man was. Of course, he did a research and discovered that the man is the third richest man in the world. This shows that hardwork pays and there is no short cut to wealth; you have to be industrious and diligent. Thomas Edison wrote; “the three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hardwork; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense”. In the same light, Steve Maraboli once said; “make a pact with yourself today to not be defined by your past. Sometimes the greatest thing to come out of all your hardwork isn’t what you get for it, but what you became for it. Shake things today! Be you…be free…share”.
Hardwork is synonymous with success, they both go peri persu. Tim Notke noted; “hardwork beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard” and Colin Powell wrote; “a dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hardwork”. With hardwork and determination, you can be the best the world has ever known or had.
If you are born with a silver spoon, then, lucky you, but you shouldn’t put all your hope, heart, and mind on your parents’ riches, rather, work hard for yours’ so that you will also be proud to tell your children that you attained such heights through hardwork, and you will also give them reasons to thrive to attain their own wealth and fame.
Israel Ayivor wrote; “you were never born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Don’t think that way. You were born with a diamond spoon in your palm. Carry it by your own hand. Now feed yourself”
Strive for excellence, achieve a feat, let the world recognize you for the different and spectacular thing you have done, even from the slums you can become extraordinaire, you can rise to splendor. Don’t give up, do your best, be the best, and never settle for less.
However, you might still be having do ubts on how you can be the best, despite the fact that you were born with a silver spoon, there are suggested steps you can take in achieving that.
DREAM BIG:- it is a known fact that dreamers are leaders. Once you can dream it, you can have it. Just with a little push and determination, you can be the best in life. You could take a queue from Joseph in the Bible, he always dreamt big, and at the end, his dreams became a reality. Start living your dreams and the sky will be a stepping stone for you.
NEVER GIVE UP: – the notable world’s achievers are those who never gave up in life, they were always determined and resolute. Vince Lombardi wrote; “the price of success is hardwork, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand”’ never feel that this is the end of the road for you; even at a crossroad, there is a way out. Search for that way out and come out big.
DON’T LIMIT YOURSELF:- no matter where you find yourself in whatever situation you are in, do not limit yourself; you can only be limited if you limit yourself. Therefore, break the jinx, move beyond the limits, do your best, and give people reasons to strive for the best.
KEEP THE RIGHT COMPANY: – keep the company of friends that will motivate you and not those that will discourage you. When you are in the company of people with positive manners, you will certainly behave in like manner; you will also talk and act positively.
Michael Bassey Johnson wrote; “my friend is my friend, even if he wears rag, even if he wasn’t born with a silver spoon, even if nobody wants to be his friend, I will hurt his critics by remaining his friend”. Great friends stick together no matter the situation.
NEVER COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHERS: – never at any point in time compare yourself with another person, see yourself as the best. Even if you weren’t born with a silver spoon, it doesn’t matter at all. You are distinctive and spectacular, and that is all that matters.
BE DIFFERENT:- the world is no longer surprising to see conventions, rather they celebrate those that do things differently. Therefore, be different in all you do; let the world celebrate you for being different.
Pope Paul VI said; “all life demands is struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish, and insensitive to the real values of life. The every striving and hardwork that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today”, and Colin Powell wrote; “success is the result of perfection, hardwork, learning from failure, loyalty, and perspective”.
It’s not enough to be born with a silver spoon; thrive for excellence, fly high, and attain greatness in life.
