OVWOR-OLOMU (DELTA) – Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has assured farmers in the state of adequate protection from the aggression of some cattle herdsmen.
Uduaghan who gave the assurance while commissioning a network of nine internal road projects at Ovwor-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the State, said that his administration would not tolerate situations where herdsmen would continue to make farmlands unsafe for farmers.
“We are ready to accept visitors who have genuine business in our state, but our visitors should not be problem to us.
Let me assure our farmers that government is doing a lot to secure our people, especially, farmers; we have never heard of cattle rearers carrying AK 47 rifles, we have never heard of cattle rearers raping women or even killing people in the bush, but, it is happening now and we must stop it,” he stated.
The Governor said that he believes in peaceful co-existence and warned that visitors who have sinister motives of coming to the state would be dealt with adequately by the appropriate security agencies.
He also charged local government chairmen to have good relationship with their traditional chiefs to boost peace and security at the grassroots.
Besides, he disclosed that the electricity project executed by his administration has been handed over to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, observing that most of the electricity projects executed by his administration faced similar faith in a bid for electricity to get to all Deltans.
In his address, the Chairman of Ughelli South local government council, Hon. Paul Etaga said the road projects “have stepped up infrastructure development in this our local government and would ensure smooth drive in our community, ease evacuation of agricultural products as well as goods and services within the community.”
