The Edo State Government has hosted a Christmas party for children as part of its ongoing commitment to the welfare and all-round development of young people in the state.
The event, held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, Benin City, brought together children from diverse social backgrounds and communities. It was designed to provide a safe, joyful and memorable Christmas celebration for the young participants.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator, Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpewbholo Anani, described Christmas as a season that symbolises love, compassion and selfless giving, as exemplified by Jesus Christ. She urged residents to uphold these values beyond the festive period, particularly in their interactions with children and other vulnerable members of society.
Mrs. Anani also called on parents, guardians and community leaders to create nurturing environments anchored on love, care and strong moral values, noting that such foundations are essential for raising responsible, empathetic and future-ready leaders.
The celebration featured music, games and other forms of entertainment, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. The high point of the event was the presentation of Christmas gifts to the children by Mrs. Anani, a gesture that elicited excitement and joy among the beneficiaries.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah; Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, Hon. (Engr.) Gabriel Iduseri; Wife of the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Mrs. Babra Agbebaku; as well as other government officials, stakeholders and parents.
