BENIN CITY – The Managing Director of the Edo State Public Building and Maintenance Agency, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, has affirmed that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration will not tolerate fraud or redundancy in the civil service.
Speaking during an interactive session with artisans of the agency, Eseigbe emphasized that the government would not use taxpayers’ money to pay salaries for unproductive staff.
He criticized the practice of sidelining state-employed workers in favor of contractors and consultants, calling it a misuse of public resources.
“It is wasteful for the government to pay workers who are not meaningfully engaged,” Eseigbe stated.
“Every staff member, in their chosen craft, must be productive and deliver on assigned tasks. Governor Okpebholo’s administration is committed to ensuring that everyone earns their wages through meaningful work.”
Eseigbe drew on biblical and ethical principles, asserting that it is morally wrong to reap where one has not sown.
“This administration will engage every worker productively and ensure that no one is paid for doing nothing,” he said.
However, he assured staff that their concerns would be addressed. “We will carefully review the challenges raised and work towards providing practical solutions,” he added.
The agency’s artisans, whose crafts range from plumbing and electrical work to gardening and tailoring, expressed their readiness to work diligently.
They however highlighted several challenges, including the impact of modern technological advancements that have rendered many of their traditional tools obsolete.
The artisans appealed to the government to organize training programs to upgrade their skills and provide them with modern equipment that would enhance their performance.
“We are eager to contribute to the success of the agency, but we need support to stay relevant in today’s industry standards,” one of the artisans stated.
The interactive session ended with a renewed commitment from the management and artisans to work collaboratively in building a more efficient and productive workforce for Edo State
