WARRI (Delta) – The Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas in the Niger Delta Region, has expressed dismay over the non passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill ( PIB) by the National Assembly, with just fews months to the expiration of the present administration.
The group in a statement signed by its chairman, Chief Dr. A. M.Bubor and Secretary, Sadipe Ibinabobo and made available to the press in Warri, Delta State said that several assurances to Nigerians by the National Assembly on the smooth passage of the bill is yet to see the light of the day.
The group also decried the non release of the N1, 242.83 trillion gas large penalties to the host communities in spite of the repeated calls to the relevant stakeholders to ensure the release of the fund so as to help the host communities cushion the effect of gas flaring on them.”
The gas flare is emitted in to or environment, and we are suffering the brunt of this devastation. “
While calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene urgently, the group said they do not want to create another confusion in the midst of the present security challenges facing the country, especially now that the elections are near.
