The House belonging to a youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo was on the night of last Thursday set ablazed by some alleged political supporters of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

This is coming on the hill of the declaration of the youth leader, Mr Hassan Momodu, wanted by the Police in connection with the killings and series of political attacks in the council area over the past few days.

The father of the youth leader, Pa Anidu Momodu, who briefed newsmen on the political development in the area, however said that the declaration of his son wanted by the police is part of a ground design to weaken the support base of the PDP in the local government ahead of the April 20 Council election in the State.

He noted that political events in the council area took turn for the worst after the stakeholders meeting initiated by the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Folunsho Adebanjo, on the need to have a peaceful poll on April 20.

The senior Momodu alleged that the declaration of his son wanted by the Police was political since he is the victim whose house was burnt down by irate supporters of the ruling party in the state because of their obvious none popularity in the local government.

Momodu said that two persons, including 80 year-old man, were shot dead while several cars and houses, including his own were set ablazed.

He narrated the event that cumulated to the last attack to the incident that happened at Iviekwe commmunuty when PDP campaign bus driven by one Andrew mistakenly rammed into ACN youths who were on campaign in the area and injured several of them.

According to him, “They have planned severally to eliminate my son but they didn’t succeed and now they have divert a means of putting him behind bar where they are to carryout their plan.

“I know that they are the government in power but my God is bigger than them; i am calling on well meaning Nigerians to save my son, this is not how to play politics, politics is not by killing or burning of opposition properties.”

Meanwhile, spokesman of the Police Command in Edo State, Mr Stephen Onwochei has said that the declaration of Hassan Momodu wanted by the law enforcement agency is in connection with the political upheaval in Fugar.
