Ethiopia head coach Yohannes Sahle blamed lose of concentration for their lose 3-0 defeat to DR Congo in their opening 2016 African Nations Championships (CHAN) on Sunday.
Sahle also admitted that Congo were the better side during their Group B encounter which was played at the Stade Huye in Butare, Rwanda.
“We had a bad day in the office against DR Congo as they were better organized and we’re the better side. My players failed to implement my system as they were not committed to go forward perhaps fearing to make mistakes that is why they gave our opponents too much respect,” Sahle said.
The tactician explained that they need to go back to the drawing board and prepare for their last two Group B games against Cameroon and Angola.
“Our midfield was not compact though we started the game well in the first 30 minutes. We became complacent losing concentration but that’s football we have to go back to the drawing board and start immediate preparations for the next two matches,” he added.
“Losing the first game was not our wish but we still have a great opportunity to make amends. My players are young and most of them have never played in such a tournament that is why I have to keep on motivating and encouraging them to use the loss as platform to make amends,” Sahle concluded.
Ethiopia’s next Group B game is against Cameroon at the Stade Huye on Thursday evening.
